Lucy Adams, Environmental Consultant for ABPmer, Associated British Ports’ (ABP) research subsidiary, recently received one of EcoPorts Foundation’s ‘Young Ports Professional of the Year’ awards.
Herman Journeé, Chairman of EcoPorts Foundation and Director of the Port of Amsterdam, presented Lucy with her prestigious award during a ceremony at EcoPorts’ annual conference in Genoa. Lucy is one of only three recipients of the award.
The award, launched in 2005, recognises Lucy’s contribution towards the implementation of port-environmental initiatives and her efforts in promoting the role of EcoPorts Foundation. In one such environmental promotional campaign, Lucy played an instrumental role in helping ABP achieve Ports Environmental Review System (PERS) certification for 10 of its ports. The certification provides verification of ABP’s accomplishments in environmental port management.
Established in 1999, EcoPorts Foundation aims to provide a platform for the discussion and exchange of port-related environmental issues and solutions.
Herman Journeé commented on the award:
“I am very pleased to present this award to Lucy, who did an excellent job in introducing EcoPorts Foundation’s environmental initiatives to an impressive number of port operators. I have worked closely with Lucy and her ABPmer colleagues on many different projects and the quality of their work has always been exceptional. Lucy has done much to highlight the work of EcoPorts Foundation, for which we are all grateful.”
After the awards ceremony, Lucy said:
“On behalf of my ABPmer colleagues, I am delighted to receive this award. Over the past three years, we have been working hard towards the PERS accreditation being granted to ABP ports and this accolade is very much appreciated.”
Bill Cooper, Managing Director for ABPmer, said:
“Lucy thoroughly deserves this award. Her diligence in implementing ABP’s PERS certifications is an exemplary illustration of her abilities, not only in fostering working relationships with a range of interested parties and customers, but also in working to achieve ABP’s goal of managing its environmental obligations responsibly.”
